Body wall morphogenesis: Limb-genesis interferes with body wall-genesis via its influence on the abaxial somite derivatives

چکیده
The vertebrate body wall is regionalized into thoracic and lumbosacral/abdominal regions that differ in their morphology and developmental origin. The thoracic body wall has ribs and intercostal muscles, which develops from thoracic somites, whereas the abdominal wall has abdominal muscles, which develops from lumbosacral somites without ribs cage. To examine whether limb-genesis interferes with body wall-genesis, and to test the possibility that limb generation leads to the regional differentiation, an ectopic limb was induced in the thoracic region by transplanting prospective limb somatopleural mesoderm of Japanese quail between the ectoderm and somatopleural mesoderm of the chick prospective thoracic region. This ectopic limb generation induced the somitic cells to migrate into the ectopic limb mesenchyme to become its muscles and caused the loss of distal thoracic body wall (sterno-distal rib and distal intercostal muscle), without causing any significant effect on the more proximal region (proximal rib, vertebro-distal rib and proximal intercostal muscle). According to a new primaxial-abaxial classification, the proximal region is classified as primaxial and the distal region, as well as limb, is classified as abaxial. We demonstrated that ectopic limb development interfered with body wall development via its influence on the abaxial somite derivatives. The present study supports the idea that the somitic cells give rise to the primaxial derivatives keeping their own identity and fate, whereas they produce the abaxial derivatives responding to the lateral plate mesoderm.

The Unusual, Lepidosome-coated Resting Cyst of Meseres corlissi (Cilio- phora: Oligotrichea): Encystment and Genesis and Release of the Lepidosomes
Meseres corlissi Petz and Foissner (1992) is an oligotrichine ciliate covering the resting cyst with epicortical scales called lepidosomes. We studied in detail encystment as well as the genesis and release of the lepidosomes, using live observation, morphometry, and transmission electron microscopy. Encystment is remarkable in changing body shape distinctly and showing two phases of intense ro...
متن کاملSevere defects in the formation of epaxial musculature in open brain (opb) mutant mouse embryos.
The differentiation of somite derivatives is dependent on signals from neighboring axial structures. While ventral signals have been described extensively, little is known about dorsal influences, especially those from the dorsal half of the neural tube. Here, we describe severe phenotypic alterations in dorsal somite derivatives of homozygous open brain (opb) mutant mouse embryos which suggest...
متن کاملTwo myogenic lineages within the developing somite.
It is well known that the muscles of the vertebrate body are derived from the somite. Precursor cells within the somite proper form the back or axial muscles while other precursor cells migrate away from the somite to populate the muscle of the limbs and ventral body wall. Although both types of muscle are generally thought of as arising from a common progenitor population, the myotome, recent ...
متن کاملManagement of an Unusual Tracheoesophageal Party Wall Foreign Body
Introduction: Penetration injury to the neck constitutes 5–10% of all trauma cases. Penetration of a foreign body into the trachea with subsequent impaction into the tracheoesophageal party wall is extremely rare. We present a patient with an unusual penetrating injury of the neck caused by a metallic foreign body embedded into the tracheoesophageal party wall, and its management. Case Repor...
متن کاملInfluence of Alumina nano particles addition on the properties of wall tiles containing slag
The use of waste materials and industrial wastes in order to protect the environment and also to reduce costs has been considered. In this study, first, the use of slag, a waste of the steel industry, on the properties of the wall tile body was investigated. For this purpose, different percentages of slag were added to the tile body and physical properties such as density, percentage of shrinka...
